About this cz double huggie earrings

The design is two hoops in one. Two bands of steel sit side by side with a small gap between them, both curving to the same hinged closure, so the pair of rows is fixed rather than loose. Each band carries a continuous row of round cubic zirconia, set flush enough that the stones read as a single line of light from the front, and each earring closes as one piece.

Band and hinge are 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L, so the earrings do not tarnish and are hypoallergenic for everyday wear. The stones are cubic zirconia, not a natural stone, so the size and the colour hold steady across a run and across a reorder. The gold is a gold tone plating over the steel, with plating thickness quoted per micron.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Is this two earrings or one?

One earring per lobe: two parallel bands joined to a single hinge, so it closes as one piece. Worn in a single piercing it reads as a stack of two hoops.

What are the stones?

Cubic zirconia, set in a continuous row on each band. It is a laboratory material rather than a natural stone, so the stone size and colour stay consistent across a run.

What grade of steel is it, and is it hypoallergenic?

The band and hinge are 316L stainless steel, the same grade family sold as SUS316L. It is hypoallergenic for most wearers and does not react with skin. It does contain nickel, around 10-14%, tightly bound in the alloy, so it stays low-sensitising for most wearers.

How does it close?

On a hinge: the post end swings out on a pin and clicks back into the band, so there is no separate butterfly back to lose and the two rows stay aligned when closed.
