How to buy this category

Necklace complaints are almost always one of two things: the chain is the wrong length for the neckline being sold to, or the clasp failed. Both are engineering decisions, and both are cheap to get right before production and expensive to fix afterwards.

Length is the commercial one. A 40 cm chain sits at the collarbone and reads young; 45 cm is the volume seller in most markets; 50–60 cm layers over knitwear and sells to a different customer entirely. In sterling silver the length also changes the metal content, so a long chain is not a free variation of a short one — we quote the length run rather than letting it slide.

  • ✓Chain length, link style and metal weight specified line by line
  • ✓Lobster clasp as standard; spring, box, magnetic and toggle on request
  • ✓2–5 cm extension chains available, with your own tag
  • ✓Jump-ring reinforcement on pendants — the part that fails first if it is skimped

Necklaces FAQ

Questions about necklaces in sterling silver

Which chain length should I stock?
If you are stocking one length, 45 cm is the safest single choice in most markets because it clears the collarbone and layers without fighting the neckline. If you are stocking two, 45 cm plus either 40 cm or 50 cm — and we would keep the second length to one link style so you are not carrying two axes of inventory at once.
What clasp do you use, and will it fail?
Lobster is the default because it is the most reliable per unit of cost, and we test clasps for opening and closing cycles on the runs we build. Spring rings are cheaper and weaker; magnetic clasps sell well and fail more often, so we do not recommend them for anything sold as everyday wear. Tell us the sales channel and we will match the clasp to the expected life of the piece.
Can the chain, pendant and clasp be different materials?
Yes, and it is a useful piece of engineering. A 316L chain with a 925 silver pendant gives you a precious-metal look at a lower metal cost, and a stainless steel clasp on a silver chain is common where customers have nickel sensitivity. We will show the material split on the quote so the difference is explicit, not hidden.
Do you supply extension chains and tags?
Yes — a 2–5 cm extension with a small tag carrying your mark is the usual request. It is quoted as its own line, because the tag is a separate stamping and engraving step. It is also the single cheapest way to make one length fit more customers, so it is often worth more than a second size run.
