About this cabochon huggie earring range

The huggie is the frame here, not the feature. It is a small, flat-faced ring with a hinged clasp at the back, polished on the sides so the gold catches light at the edge of the face. Across the face runs a single row of four cabochon stones, each set into a shallow round seat so the dome sits proud of the metal. Because the stones are cabochons rather than faceted, there is no sparkle to compete with the colour: what you see is the surface of each stone.

The two colour groups are chosen to read as a set without matching. The first runs a pale white dome into a deep green with darker veining, then a sky blue carrying fine webbing, and closes on a deep navy. The second starts on an amber brown with a light band across it, then black, a warm red, and a deep blue flecked with lighter points. The stones are cabochons as described, and we do not present them as natural — colour and pattern are what the design sells, and we agree the range on samples before a run.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Are the stones natural?

We do not describe them as natural. They are cabochon stones — domed, unfaceted tops — and we sell them on colour and pattern, agreed on samples before a run.

How many stones are on each earring?
