About this aluminium cuban collar

Aluminium is the whole argument for this version. A collar in plated aluminium carries the same Cuban link pattern and the same stone-set face as an alloy chain but at a lower weight per centimetre, which matters most at the larger sizes: a 60 cm band in base-metal alloy is a heavy thing to leave on a neck, and the same length in aluminium is comfortable enough for a dog to forget. Sizes run by neck circumference at 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 cm.

The trade is in the plating. Aluminium is a soft base metal with an oxide layer that does not take a plate as readily as a denser alloy, so plating adhesion is the specification that decides whether the finish survives a season or a month — if the plate is breached, the aluminium underneath pits and goes dull rather than wearing to a bright metal like steel would. Ask for plating build in microns and approve a sample from the run. The stones are rhinestones set into the link face, and the clasp is a lobster clasp: it does not release under load, so this is a decorative collar for display and supervised wear.

Questions about this aluminium cuban collar

What is the difference from your other Cuban collar?

The base metal. This one is plated aluminium, the other is alloy chain: same link pattern and same stone-set face, lighter per centimetre, and it starts at 25 cm rather than 20 cm.

Does light mean fragile?

Light means less weight on the neck, not more strength. Aluminium is a softer base metal, so the plating has to do more work — treat the finish as the wear item and ask for the plating build in microns.

Are the stones crystals?

No. They are rhinestones set into the link face. The name of the collar describes the look; the material line stays literal.

Can a dog wear this on a walk?

It is a decorative collar. The lobster clasp does not release under load and the chain is not a load-bearing fitting, so it is for display and supervised wear rather than walking or tying out.
