About this cz stud earring range

This is a range, not one pair: nine stud designs, all in the same gold over steel, so they sell as a set of options rather than nine unrelated products. The shapes cover a two-stone marquise V, a five-stone crown, a wider fan, a round stone above a heart-cut stone, a four-wing butterfly, a three-stone cluster, a four-stone cross, a three-stone bar and a single pear-shaped drop on a short link. Every stone is cubic zirconia, brilliant cut and held in gold-tone claws.

The posts, backs and settings are 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L, so the studs do not tarnish and are hypoallergenic for everyday wear. Because the stones are cubic zirconia rather than a natural stone, colour and size stay consistent across a run, which is what makes a nine-pair range practical to reorder. The gold is 18K gold PVD, bonded in a vacuum chamber over the steel, with plating thickness quoted per micron.

316L

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. How many designs are in this range?

What are the stones?

Cubic zirconia, brilliant cut and claw set. It is a laboratory material rather than a natural stone, so the colour and the size of the stones stay consistent from pair to pair and from run to run.

What grade of steel is it, and is it hypoallergenic?

Posts, backs and settings are 316L stainless steel, the same grade family sold as SUS316L. It is hypoallergenic for most wearers and does not react with skin. It does contain nickel, around 10-14%, tightly bound in the alloy, so it stays low-sensitising for most wearers.
