The petals are domed and rounded rather than flat, so the light travels along the curve instead of sitting on a plain face. About this lily brooch
This brooch is a flower reduced to four petals. Each petal is a rounded, dome-shaped leaf that widens out of a small bead at the centre and curls back at the tip, and the four sit in a fan rather than a full circle, which gives the piece an asymmetric, sculpted outline. The front is polished to a high gloss and the form is solid, so the shine comes from the shape and its curves rather than from any set stone. Nothing is glued on: the motif and the back plate are one formed metal body.
The metal is 316L stainless steel and the finish shown is gold tone (electroplated); the same design is also made in steel tone. It fastens with a bar pin — a straight pin bar pinned across the back, closed by a rotating safety catch — so it goes onto a blazer lapel, a coat, a scarf or a bag and comes off again without pulling the fabric. It is not magnetic and needs no separate back piece. Brooches are quoted per piece, and the plating is confirmed at that stage.

The grade, in plain terms
Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.
Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Questions about this lily brooch
How does it fasten?
With a bar pin: a straight pin bar rivetted across the back plate, closed by a rotating safety catch so the pin locks shut. It is not magnetic and there is no separate back piece to lose.
Is the gold solid gold?
No. The finish is gold tone (electroplated) over 316L stainless steel, so the base metal is steel with a gold-coloured layer on top. Plating thickness is confirmed when we quote.
Is the flower a full circle of petals?
No. The design is four petals set in a fan, opening out of one bead at the centre and curling back at the tips, so the outline is asymmetric rather than a round daisy.
Can it be worn in water?
316L stainless steel is the grade we use for everyday-wear pieces, but we would not leave a plated brooch wet. If the piece will regularly meet salt water or pool chlorine, tell us and we will advise on the finish before you order.
