The grade, in plain terms
Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.
Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. No. It is fixed with a pin post and a safety catch at the back, so it holds to woven fabric and does not rely on a magnet.
What metal is it?
The body is 304 stainless steel. This line is 304, not 316L. If you need 316L — for example for pieces that will meet sea water or pool chlorine — tell us and we quote it separately in 316L.
Does the shape have moving parts?
No. The aircraft is a single cut piece of steel with a polished face; there is no enamel, stone or hinge to come loose in wear.
Can the finish and packing match my range?
