About this resin hoop earrings

The hoop is a thick, rounded block, and that block is resin rather than metal. The resin is semi-translucent with a flowing grain running through it, so light passes into the body instead of sitting on a polished surface — which is what gives the tortoise colourway its depth. On the front edge, a gold-tone metal rim caps the resin and carries a single row of small cubic zirconia, so the stone line follows the curve of the hoop.

Two colourways: a dark tortoise brown, and a milky beige that reads warmer in the light. The metal parts — rim, post and butterfly — are 316L stainless steel in gold tone. Because the body is resin, the earring is light for its size, so a thick hoop does not pull on the lobe. We describe the body as resin throughout rather than presenting the hoop as solid steel.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Is the hoop solid steel?

No. The hoop body is resin, semi-translucent with a flowing grain through it. Only the front rim, the post and the butterfly are 316L stainless steel, in gold tone.

Are the stones real?

They are cubic zirconia — one row of small stones set along the front metal rim. They are not a natural stone, which keeps colour even across a run.

How heavy is a thick hoop like this?
