About this moon & star necklaces

This is one listing with three necklaces, so it is quoted per design. All three are small pendants on fine chains: a crescent moon set with a few clear stones along the curve, an eight-point star whose face is packed with clear stones, and a sunburst disc with pointed rays, small clear stones set between them and a single pearl-finish bead at the centre. The gallery shows all three layered on one neck, which is how they are most often sold.

The beads on the sunburst are a pearl-finish bead — a coated bead rather than a grown pearl — and the clear stones are set as clear stones, with no species declared to us. The metal is 316L stainless steel, the low-carbon grade also written SUS316L, and the gold is an 18K gold PVD layer bonded by vacuum plating. 316L is hypoallergenic for most wearers, does not tarnish, and will not rust the way plated brass does, which is why it is the usual steel for pieces worn against the neck.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design.
