About this blue stone y necklace

This is a Y necklace worked in fine detail: a slim gold-toned chain carries bezel-set blue stones and small white stones spaced well apart, so the colour reads as a line rather than a block. The chain then gathers into a Y and drops to a blue teardrop, with a fine tail below it to draw the eye down.

It is a different idea from our blue stone pendant necklace. That piece is a single centred pendant shown in a family of frames, so the stone is the whole look; here the blue is strung along the run as stations and the chain drops into a Y, so the necklace is the design and the teardrop is where it lands.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design.
