The reverse is a blank face. That is where a date, a set of coordinates or a short line goes, which turns a general charm into a specific gift. Questions about this compass charm
Can the back be engraved with a message?
Yes — the reverse face is left flat for exactly that, and we mark an approved sample before the run continues. Laser suits longer lines and fine lettering; a hand-stamp gives a deeper, softer impression but only works for a few characters. Because it is a separate pass, the engraving is quoted as its own line, so you can see what the personalisation adds to the charm itself.
Will it tarnish or turn skin green?
No. 316L contains no copper to leach and resists sweat and salt water, so it will not tarnish, rust or leave a mark on skin. That is why we build this charm in steel rather than a plated base metal — a charm hangs against the chest or the wrist all day, which is where a cheaper material shows its faults first.
Should I stock it plated or in bare steel?
It depends on the palette of the range it sits in. Bare steel is the lifelong option: there is no coating to wear, and the finish never needs retouching, so it is the safer choice for a piece sold as everyday wear. A gold PVD version sits better in a warmer collection. PVD is harder than electroplate, and we state the thickness in microns on the quotation so the durability claim is checkable.
