About this leaf drop satellite necklace

The chain is the design here. It is a satellite chain, which means small polished beads are fixed at regular intervals along fine links rather than strung on a single strand, and the necklace is built to a very fine gauge. Between the beads, small leaf drops hang free on their own jump rings, cut flat with a soft point and polished on both faces, so they turn and flash as the wearer moves.

There are no stones in this necklace and no set parts, which keeps the price of the piece in the chain work rather than in the setting. Chain, beads, leaves and clasp are all 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L, so the necklace does not tarnish and is hypoallergenic for everyday wear. The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Are there stones in this necklace?

No. The necklace is all metal: a satellite chain, small polished beads and leaf drops, with no stone and no setting anywhere on the piece.

What is a satellite chain?

Small polished beads are fixed at regular intervals along fine links, rather than strung on a single strand. That gives the chain a dotted line of highlights and lets the leaf drops sit between the beads.

What grade of steel is it, and is it hypoallergenic?

Chain, beads, drops and clasp are 316L stainless steel, the same grade family sold as SUS316L. It is hypoallergenic for most wearers and does not react with skin. It does contain nickel, around 10-14%, tightly bound in the alloy, so it stays low-sensitising for most wearers.

Can the drop spacing be changed?

Spacing is set by the chain length and the number of leaves you want on it. Tell us the length and how dense you want the drops and we quote the layout back to you before sampling.
