About this sunburst bar pendant necklace

This is a single pendant necklace. The pendant is a rectangular bar engraved with a fine sunburst: lines radiating from the centre of the face, so the surface turns from a satin, brushed tone into a bright polished edge as the light moves. It hangs on a twisted rope chain, and the whole piece reads as a clean, solid shape rather than a stone-set one.

Because the design is all in the metal, the finish is what carries it, so we quote per piece and confirm the chain length you sell. The pendant and chain are 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L, and the gold is an electroplated gold tone over the steel; plating thickness is quoted per micron. 316L does not tarnish and is hypoallergenic for most wearers, so a plain, engraved pendant like this holds up to everyday wear.

316L stainless steel	The pendant and chain are 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L, with molybdenum at roughly 2-3% and chromium at 16-18%. That is why it does not tarnish and is hypoallergenic for most wearers. We name the grade rather than calling it a vague 'surgical steel'.
Sunburst engraving	The sunburst is engraved into the metal, so the face turns between a satin, brushed finish and a bright polished edge; there is no stone on the piece.
Gold tone (electroplated)	Electroplated gold over the steel, quoted per micron; a steel-tone finish is available on request.

316L

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. If your market needs documentation with the goods, tell us and we will confirm what is available on this design before you order.

Questions about this sunburst bar pendant necklace

Is there a stone in this necklace?

No. The design is all in the metal: a rectangular bar engraved with a fine sunburst. There is no stone or bead on the piece.

What grade of steel is it, and is it hypoallergenic?

It is 316L stainless steel, the grade family also sold as SUS316L and the grade specified for surgical implants. It is hypoallergenic for most wearers, does not react with skin and does not tarnish. It does contain nickel, around 10-14%, tightly bound in the alloy, so it stays low-sensitising for most wearers.

Can the pendant be engraved on the back?
