A rope chain is the general-purpose steel chain: it holds a pendant, it survives daily wear and it sells at every price point because the only variable customers notice is how heavy it is. Its twisted link flexes in every direction, so it lies comfortably and does not kink the way a stiffer chain can.
Two details decide whether it comes back as a complaint. The clasp has to be sized to the chain, because a 5 mm rope with a small lobster clasp is the first thing to fail. And the end caps have to be securely crimped and soldered, because that joint is where a cheap chain breaks if the work is rushed.

Chain length is a market decision, and in steel it changes the weight too. 45 cm is the volume seller in most markets because it clears the collarbone; 50 cm and above layers over knitwear. Because the metal is the cost, a longer rope chain is a different unit price, not a free variation of a shorter one.

Questions about this rope chain necklace
Why is the chain priced by weight rather than per piece?
Because in steel the metal is most of the cost. A 5 mm rope and a 2 mm rope of the same length are the same product with very different amounts of metal, so a single price would either overcharge for the light one or lose money on the heavy one. We publish the grams per width and length, so the metal line in your quotation is something you can verify rather than take on trust.
Rope or Cuban link — which sells better?
They sell to different buyers. A rope chain reads as a classic, flexes well and suits a pendant, so it is the safer general-purpose stock. A Cuban link is flatter, heavier and more overtly a statement, so it sells best in men's and streetwear ranges. If you carry one, take the rope at 3 mm; add the Cuban once your market clearly leans toward heavier chains.
Can it be worn in the sea or the shower?
Yes. 316L contains 2–3% molybdenum, which is what resists salt water and sweat, and it contains no copper to leach, so the chain will not tarnish, rust or leave a green mark. That is why this is the chain we suggest for anything sold as waterproof. If the chain is gold-toned, note that the coating, not the steel, is the part that ages, and we state its thickness in microns on the quotation.
