About this wheat chain necklace and bracelet set

Wheat chain is built by weaving links at an angle into one another, which is why the finished run looks like a braid: dense, flat on the surface and slightly rounded at the edges. Because the links sit tight against each other, the chain lies flat on the skin and does not turn over the way an open link chain does. It also means light runs along the braid as a continuous line rather than flashing link by link.

The set is two pieces in that same chain: a necklace and a bracelet. Each closes with a lobster clasp and carries a short extension of fine links, so the fit is adjustable at the point of sale rather than fixed at one length. Worn together the two read as a matched pair in the same tone and braid; the bracelet also works against a watch or a plain bangle. There is no stone in this set — the braid is the whole design.

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. What is included in the set?

Is the chain solid or hollow?

The chain is 316L stainless steel. Wheat chain is a woven construction rather than a single cast bar, which is what gives it the braided surface.
