About this box chain necklace
A box chain is built from square links that interlock into a flat profile, and that flatness is the point: it lies against the neck instead of rolling, so a small pendant hangs facing forward rather than twisting onto its side the way it does on a round or rope chain.
It is also the most forgiving chain to wear hard. There are no protruding edges to catch on clothing and no twist to straighten. The trade-off is that a box chain is less flexible than a rope, so it is only offered in smaller widths; above about 2.5 mm we would specify the Cuban or rope link instead.

Box chains are ordered by length in the standard way, and because the link is fine, a 2–5 cm extension chain is a cheap way to widen the fit of a single SKU. Tell us the necklines you are selling to and we will suggest a length; changing it costs nothing before the drawing is approved.

Questions about this box chain necklace
Box chain or rope chain — which should I stock?
Both, if you can. They answer different problems: the box chain keeps a pendant facing forward and stays flat under a collar, while a rope or Cuban chain carries more weight and looks substantial on its own. If you can only carry one, stock a rope or Cuban in the width your market buys, and add the box chain once a pendant range exists.
Why does it stop at 2.5 mm?
Because of how the link is made. A box chain is square links folded into a flat profile, and above about 2.5 mm the geometry turns stiff and the chain loses the flexibility that makes it comfortable to wear. Above that width we would specify a Cuban or rope link instead, and we will quote it that way rather than force a box link into a job it is not suited to.
Will it rust or discolour in water?
No. 316L resists sweat, salt water and sunscreen, and contains no copper, so it does not tarnish or leave a green mark. A box chain in bare steel can be worn in the sea or the shower without a care. If you order a coated finish, the coating is the only part that ages, and we state its thickness in microns on the quotation so the wear claim is defensible.
