Overview

About this pearl and square cz layered necklace

This is one necklace with two fixed strands, not a set of two separate chains. Both attach to the same clasp, so it goes on in one movement and the layering stays exactly as designed — nothing shifts or tangles on the neck. The upper strand is a curb chain, flat-lying and close to the neck; the lower is a fine long-link chain, lighter and looser, that drops below the curb and forms the visible second arc.

The detail sits on the upper strand, in three parts. One side carries a short run of three pearl-finish beads, spaced on small gold-tone pins so they sit proud of the chain. Both sides carry a square-cut cubic zirconia in a corner setting, one on each shoulder of the front arc. At the point where the two strands meet, a small round cubic zirconia hangs on a short drop, which is what stops the lower chain from reading as a plain second line: it ties the two strands together at the centre.

316L

The grade, in plain terms

Every design on this page is made in 316L stainless steel — the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, and the same grade specified for surgical implants and marine fittings. The “L” is low carbon, which is what keeps chain links and hollow forms sound at the joins.

Grades are worth stating rather than implying, because 316L, 304 and 201 look identical in a photograph and differ by real money per tonne. We name the grade on every design. Questions about this pearl and square cz layered necklace

Is this one necklace or two?

One. Both strands attach to a single clasp, so it goes on once and the layering is fixed by the design. There is no second chain to fasten, and nothing separates.

What are the stones and the beads?

The squares and the round drop are cubic zirconia, which is lab-grown, not natural. The beads are pearl-finish, made to a pearl look rather than taken from a shell.

Which strand sits in front?

The curb chain sits close to the neck and carries the detail; the fine long-link chain hangs below it and reads as the second, looser arc. That order is fixed at the clasp, so it does not reverse in wear.

Can the beads be moved along the chain?
