About this sterling rope chain necklace
A rope chain is the workhorse of a silver collection: it holds a pendant, it survives daily wear, and it sells at every price point because the only variable anyone notices is how heavy it is. In silver that is also the entire cost, so we quote it by weight per length rather than as a single figure.
Two details decide whether it comes back as a complaint. The clasp has to be sized to the chain: a 3 mm rope chain with a small lobster clasp will hold, but it feels undersized and it is the first thing to fail. And the end caps have to be securely crimped and soldered, because that is where a chain breaks if the work is rushed.

Sizes and how we set them
Chain length is a market decision, not a technical one. 45 cm is the volume seller in most markets because it clears the collarbone; 40 cm reads younger and sits higher; 50 cm and above layers over knitwear. In silver, length also changes the weight, so a longer chain is not a free variation of a shorter one.

Questions about this sterling rope chain necklace
Why is the chain priced by weight rather than per piece?
Because in silver the metal is most of the cost. At the September 2026 spot price near $64.50 an ounce, one gram of 925 silver carries about $1.92 of silver before any manufacturing. A 5 mm chain and a 2 mm chain of the same length are the same product with a different amount of metal in them, and quoting them at one price would mean either overcharging for the light one or losing money on the heavy one.
What clasp do you fit?
A lobster clasp sized to the chain width as standard. It is the most reliable option per unit of cost, and we test opening and closing cycles on the runs we produce. Box clasps look cleaner on heavier chains, and toggle clasps are used when the clasp is part of the design. Tell us if the piece is sold as everyday wear and we will not downgrade the clasp to save a few cents.
Can I get one length that fits more customers?
Yes — add a 2–5 cm extension chain with a small tag carrying your mark. It is the cheapest way to widen the fit of a single SKU, and it is quoted as its own line because the tag is a separate stamping step. It usually costs less than carrying a second length in stock.
