Overview
A medallion lives or dies on its relief. A pressed blank gives you a shallower image and a softer edge; a casting fills the mould and holds the raised line cleanly, which is why the design work on a cast face can go tighter. That depth is what you see in a product photograph, before anyone reads what the coin says.
The commercial reason to choose brass here is weight. A medallion of a given diameter is simply a disc of metal, and at the same size brass is heavier than steel, so the pendant hangs with a settle that a lighter disc does not. It is a small thing in the hand and a large one in a photograph, and it is the argument for this piece over a lighter alternative.
